On January 17, 2008 Larry Sinclair made public allegations of drug use and gay sex against then Senator Barack Obama. Almost immediately after going public Larry Sinclair was targeted by the Obama faithful which has continued to this day. After writing a book, Barack Obama & Larry Sinclair: Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder? Sinclair was again the target of Internet pornographer Daniel Parisi.
In 2009 Barack Obama & Larry Sinclair: Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder? was published by Sinclair Publishing, Inc. Prior to the books release there was an organized group of individuals who began publishing “fake” reviews slamming the book. These “fake” reviews began being published on Barnes & Noble.com, and then moved to Books-A-Million and Amazon.com as well as other independent online booksellers. The individuals publishing the “fake” reviews did so months before the book was published and without having had read the book.
On May 28, 2010 Daniel Parisi by and through Richard J. Oparil of Patton Boggs LLP, filed a completely baseless civil action in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia alleging Sinclair’s book is “defamatory” because Sinclair disclosed the truth about Parisi being an Internet pornographer among other truthful facts about Dan Parisi.
The civil action, Daniel Parisi, et al. v Lawrence W. Sinclair, et al; 1:10-cv-00897-RJL will turn out to be the fuel necessary for Daniel Parisi, Patton Boggs LLP, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, David Axelrod, David Plouffe, Robert Gibbs, Bill Burton and Obama for America to be forced to turn over their Phone, Text Messages, Email, financial records and more.
Since bringing the baseless defamation claim, Sinclair’s book has been taken out of print by its distributor Ingram Content Group.
Barnes & Noble, through their filings in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, confirmed what Larry and others have reported since early 2009: that individuals had engaged in publishing “fake” reviews slamming the book Barack Obama & Larry Sinclair: Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder?
On February 28, 2011 the United States District Court for the District of Columbia held a hearing on Motions to Dismiss and/or for Summary Judgment filed by Sinclair, Barnes & Noble Inc., Amazon.com Inc., and Books-A-Million Inc. The Honorable Judge Richard J. Leon has taken the motions under “advisement” and all parties were advised that until the Judge rules on these motions the case continues to be “stayed.” Judge Leon informed all parties he would try to give the parties a decision as soon as possible.
Larry Sinclair is currently writing When One Man Stands due to be released in August 2012.
On March 31, 2011 the Honorable Judge Richard J. Leon issued ORDERs GRANTING Books-A-Million Inc. Motion to Dismiss as well as Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com’s Motion for Summary Judgment.
In June 2011 Daniel Parisi moved to dismiss his claims against Books-A-Million, Inc; Barnes & Noble, Inc; and Barnesandnoble.com LLC.
On August 24, 2011 the Honorable Judge Richard J. Leon dismissed Parisi’ claims against Jeffrey Rense.
Parisi has filed an appeal of Judge Leon’s decisions dismissing his claims against Amazon.com and Jeffrey Rense (which has been consolidated by the Court) with the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (Case No. 11-7077).
On December 19, 2011 Appellants and Appellees filed a Joint Briefing Format Proposal as directed by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on December 2, 2011.
